Burned body of 63-year-old man found

The burned body of a 63-year-old man was found this afternoon in the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Pecos Road, Las Vegas police said.

The body was found on top of a mattress, which was also heavily burned. Police have not yet released the man's name.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene, but early impressions were that no accelerant had been used.

Police spokesman Ted Snodgrass said detectives found a suitcase next to the body, which led them to believe the man was homeless. They also found money on his person, an indication that he had not been robbed.

Detectives suspect the man had a medical condition and fell asleep while smoking a cigarette, Snodgrass said.
