Newsweek: Can’t we all just get along?
For a completely different approach to the post immediately below, consider this from Fareed Zakaria of "Newsweek" who argues that "Obama is gambling that America is now mature enough to understand that machismo is not foreign policy, and that grandstanding on the global stage just won't succeed. In a new world, with other countries more powerful and confident, America's success—its security, its prosperity—depends on working with others. It's a big, bold gambit. I hope it works."
I don't agree with much of what my colleague Fareed says. The biggest error he makes is in thinking that Obama has any kind of foreign relations plan other than to tear down his own country's actions of the past, and feed his personal conceit as savior of the world. And, of course, Fareed wrote his piece before the Olympic Committee kicked us and our woefully naive president in the teeth. If he's intellectually honest, I'd be interested to hear his views now.
Nevertheless, unlike too many liberals in the media who like Fareed dismissively refer to guys like me as members of "America's right-wing netherworld" (whatever the hell that means), I like an open forum and a good debate. The Complete Las Vegan therefore, from his outpost deep within the "right-wing netherworld" recommends this opposing view for your reading pleasure.
