No injuries in officer-involved shooting

A Las Vegas police officer fired his weapon during a traffic stop Friday night on the Strip. Nobody was injured.

Department spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said two officers on bicycles pulled over a dark-colored sport utility vehicle with California plates about 7:45 p.m.

The driver stopped for the officers on Las Vegas Boulevard at Spring Mountain Road. The officers approached on the passenger side and "words were exchanged," Morgan said.

One of the officers fired his weapon an unknown number of times and the driver fled the scene east on Spring Mountain. The vehicle was stopped on Sands Boulevard near Howard Hughes Parkway and two men were placed in custody.

Police were still investigating the scene late Friday. Initial reports were that the vehicle attempted to back into the officers.

The incident forced the closure of both directions of Sands and closed southbound traffic on the Strip north of Spring Mountain.
