California man dies in boating accident

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A 23-year-old man was killed in a weekend boating accident in a narrow part of the Colorado River near the entrance to Lake Havasu.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim of the Saturday accident as David Kerber of Moreno Valley, Calif.

Sergeant Tim Smith said the boat piloted by Kerber struck two other watercraft during a passing attempt. Seven other people were hurt in the collision, six of them requiring hospital treatment.

Divers recovered Kerber’s body. The accident remains under investigation. Smith said authorities suspect alcohol played a role in the incident.
