Man gets life term in shooting
A 21-year-old man convicted of first-degree murder for shooting and killing a man outside a party was sentenced Thursday to spend life in prison with the possibility of parole after 49 years.
District Judge Douglas Herndon sentenced Debaron Sanders for killing 19-year-old Darnell Ford in January 2006 as the victim and a friend, Mariano Lomeli, were walking away from a party near Nellis and Charleston boulevards.
Sanders was convicted of attempted murder for shooting and wounding Lomeli.
Prosecutors said the two victims were walking away from a house party when Sanders and several others pulled up in a vehicle and asked where the party was.
Sanders and Gregory Boyd, 22, then opened fire. Boyd previously was sentenced to life in prison.
The vehicle's driver, Larry Bailey, 22, was sentenced to at least 48 years in prison.
