2-year-old shooting victim remains in critical condition

A 2-year-old girl who was shot by her older brother Thursday night remained in critical condition at University Medical Center this afternoon.

The girl was shot in the torso by her 4-year-old brother, who was wielding a loaded handgun he found in the family’s house at 1708 Verde Jardin Way, near Jones and Oakey boulevards.

Las Vegas police are investigating the case. No charges have been filed. The shooting was the second in less than a week in which a child was injured or killed by an unsecured firearm.

On Monday, a 5-year-old autistic child took a handgun in his father’s vehicle and shot himself in the face. He died the next day.
