Las Vegas smashes record, hitting 110 degrees; storms Saturday

Las Vegas hit 110 degrees at 4:03 p.m. today, breaking a 69-year-old high-temperature record for the date. But cooler temperatures are expected for Saturday, with a chance of strong thunderstorms in the afternoon.

For today, local cooling stations are opening their doors to help people chill out.

Those looking to beat the heat can go to one of the 10 centers.

Here is a list of the locations:

- Catholic Charities, 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

- Salvation Army, 31 W. Owens Ave. (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

- Shade Tree, 1 W. Owens Ave. (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

- Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St. (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

- Dula Recreation Center, 441 E. Bonanza Road (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

- Hollywood Recreation Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd. (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

- Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Ave. (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

- Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

- Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave. (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

- Islamic Society of Nevada, 4730 E. Desert Inn Road (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

These stations are temporary shelters for homeless seeking shelter and hydration during the hottest time of the day.
