State USDA official named

The Obama administration has announced a Nevada state director for rural development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Sarah Adler was named to the post Thursday in Washington. She serves as grants and special projects manager for the Carson City School District. She served as state director of USDA rural development from 1993-2000.

The Rural Development division administers and manages more than 40 housing, business and other programs in 500 offices. It has 6,100 employees, and its programs are designed to improve economic stability in rural communities.
