District attorney opposes bail request for O.J.

Incarcerated football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson’s bid for release on bail while the Nevada Supreme Court considers an appeal of his convictions was opposed today by the Clark County district attorney’s office.

Simpson, 61, was convicted in 2008 of felonies including first-degree kidnapping, robbery with use of a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison by District Judge Jackie Glass in December. Simpson’s request for bail pending appeal made in Clark County District Court was rejected.

“Considering the term of Simpson’s sentence combined with his current age, Simpson is realistically looking at a possible life sentence,” wrote Chief Deputy District Attorney Steven Owens in his motion to oppose. “Therefore flight to avoid a lengthy sentence has to be considered tempting.”
