60-year-old man indicted in 1996 stabbing death

A 60-year-old man accused of stabbing another man to death in a 1996 cold case was indicted this week on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

A Clark County Grand Jury indicted Paul Alexander for the slaying of Joseph Meli about 12 years ago. The indictment was returned today.

Police arrested Alexander in April for killing Meli after DNA evidence tied him to the killing. Authorities found Alexander's DNA under the victim's fingernails, among other evidence.

Alexander remains behind bars at the county jail.

Meli was killed on Oct. 14, 1996 in his two-bedroom mobile home on South Valley View Boulevard, near Sahara Avenue. Alexander is the ex-husband of Meli's then live-in girlfriend.
