Rulffes named top superintendent in Nevada

Walt Rulffes, the superintendent of the Clark County School District, is the Nevada Superintendent of the Year, according to the Nevada Association of School Administrators.

With the honor, Rulffes becomes a candidate for the 2010 National Superintendent of the Year. The winner will be announced at the American Association of School Administrators’ annual conference in Phoenix in February.

Washoe County School District Superintendent Paul Dugan, the president of the Nevada Association of School Administrators, said Rulffes was honored by his peers for his leadership both in Clark County and Nevada. He is “always willing to help other superintendents,” Dugan said.

Terri Janison, the president of the Clark County School Board, was grateful that Rulffes was getting recognition for leading the county through “these hard economic times.” Clark County is the fifth largest district in the nation with 311,000 students.
