Obama lands in Las Vegas

President Barack Obama has landed in Las Vegas for his first visit to Nevada since he carried the Silver State in last year’s election.

The wheels of Air Force One touched down at 4:09 p.m. at McCarran International Airport, where runways and the sky overhead were cleared of other aircraft in preparation for the president’s arrival.

Ten minutes after the president’s specially equipped Boeing 747-200B touched down in a secured area of the airport, Obama appeared in the doorway of the aircraft and descended the stairs. His every move was observed and recorded by a gaggle of reporters and camera crews.

He was greeted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Congresswoman Dina Titus and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, among others.

The president then climbed into his heavily armored limousine, and his motorcade left the airport for Caesars Palace, where Obama will attend a “tribute concert” and fundraiser for Reid, D-Nev.

The president plans to spend the night at Caesars, sources say, and is scheduled to appear Wednesday morning at Nellis Air Force Base for an event touting the stimulus package. The Nellis event is not open to the public.
