Forecast includes 50 percent chance of rain

Chilly temps and a 50 percent chance of rain are in the forecast for the Las Vegas Valley, which could bounce from today's unseasonable weather to 90-degree temperatures by the end of the weekend, meteorologists said.

Snow was spotted falling in parts of Summerlin and wind gusts reached 61 mph at Red Rock Canyon overnight, all effects of a powerful storm system that is now moving away from the valley, said Edan Lindaman, of the National Weather Service in Las Vegas.

Reports of wind gusts ripping shingles off homes near McCarran International Airport came in late last night, Lindaman said.

Rain and more windy conditions are expected today with highs only reaching the upper 50s. Record low temperatures are possible for today.

Sunshine and temperatures returning to the 70s and 80s will guide us into the weekend, Lindaman said.

Five inches of snow fell on Mount Charleston overnight and although flurries were reported in parts of the valley Wednesday morning, Lindaman said they weren't measurable amounts.

Lindaman added that temperatures could reach the 90s by Tuesday.
