Police clear resident who shot intruder

Las Vegas police will not pursue charges against a northeast valley resident who fatally shot a home intruder over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the resident was justified in shooting the male intruder, who was armed with a pellet gun. Police have not released the identity of the resident or the burglary suspect.

On Sunday afternoon, police were called to a home on the 4600 block of Crystal Peak Drive, near Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Roberts said the resident had entered his home through the front door and saw the intruder inside. The intruder died at the scene.

"You either shoot him, or he shoots you," Roberts said. He added that even in the light of the day, pellet guns look real.
