Electrical short blamed in Henderson blaze
An electrical short is believed to have sparked a fire Wednesday night in a two-story Henderson home near Pebble Road and Eastern Avenue.
The blaze caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the home at 2824 Camelback Lane, according to the Henderson Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to reports of smoke and fire coming from the window of a second-floor bedroom at 9:56 p.m. They had the fire under control in about 10 minutes, according to the Fire Department. No one was injured in the blaze.
The family living in the home was displaced and was being cared for by other family members, Fire Department officials said.
UTAH TRAGEDY
Family of mine collapse victim awarded money
A coal company has been ordered to pay full benefits to the family of one of the six miners killed in the 2007 collapse of the Crandall Canyon mine in Utah.
An administrative judge for the Utah Labor Commission ordered Genwal Resources Inc. and Rockwood Casualty Insurance Co. to pay $565 per week for 312 weeks from the date of the cave-in to the family of Juan Carlos Payan, the Deseret News reported Thursday. That's a total of more than $176,000.
In addition to the six miners killed on Aug. 6, 2007, three more people died in a later collapse during a failed rescue attempt. The mine was permanently closed.
Payan's family said the 22-year-old miner was the main source of support for his disabled father, mother and two young siblings in Ensenada, Mexico.
The companies said they shouldn't have to pay the full benefit amount because Payan had two other siblings working in Utah to help the family.
Bret Gardner, an attorney for Genwal Resources and Rockwood Casualty Insurance, said the companies are considering an appeal.
