Public hearings set for proposed coal plant in Ely

RENO — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a series of public hearings to gather comment on a proposal to build a coal-burning power plant near Ely.

The first hearing on the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Ely Energy Center is in Reno on Feb. 5. It will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Airport Plaza Hotel.

The other hearings, all set for the same three-hour time slot, are:

— Feb. 10, Sahara West Library, Las Vegas.

— Feb. 11, Bristlecone Convention Center, Ely.

— Feb. 12, Red Lion Hotel, Elko.
