MOVIES: Film fest fever!
Don't look now, but film festival fever's about to sweep Southern Nevada, with five — count 'em, five— festivals scheduled from January through June.
The cinematic celebrations begin Jan. 17 with the eighth annual Jewish Film Festival, which runs through Feb. 1 — primarily at the Adelson School Performing Arts Center, but with selected programs at the South Point's Century multiplex and the historic Fifth Street School. Watch the Review-Journal for the full scoop on the festival; until then, click on www.desertspace.org for more details.
In February, it's the fifth anniversary of the Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City, with programs scheduled Feb. 11-14 at the historic Boulder Theatre. (Additional events will take place at the nearby Boulder Dam Hotel.) As always, the Review-Journal will feature full coverage; until then, find details at www.damshortfilm.org.
From March 26-29, the Las Vegas International Film Festival unreels at the Red Rock Resort. (Check out www.lvfilmfest.com for more info.)
And June brings the 11th annual CineVegas film festival, which will run from June 10-15 at the Palms. Festival officials have cut the run from 10 to six days, centering the festivities (including premieres and awards) around one weekend rather than two. You can find more info at www.cinevegas.com. There's also a Las Vegas Children's Film Festival scheduled for June, sponsored by the Los Angeles Children's Film Festival (www.lachildrensfilm.org).
As always, stay tuned to the Review-Journal for complete coverage of all the festival doings.
