Room tax hike measure clears state Senate

CARSON CITY — A room tax increase that could bring in $233 million in the next two years was approved by the state Senate Tuesday, but it will go forward without Gov. Jim Gibbons’ signature. Gibbons announced his decision not to sign the bill soon after the state Senate voted 16-5 to increase the room tax rate by 3 percentage points.
