How tweet it is

After a few days of focusing on what Twitter is, I'm starting to get it. Like many corners of cyberspace, it's very much what you make of it.

I see huge potential when doing research for a column, as I now have a direct link to many well-informed people. The one-to-many aspect of Twitter, coupled with the immediacy of the service, makes it a great tool for sending out a query and quickly getting replies. A public relations friend who showed me how she uses the service illustrated another angle. She and others at her company serve customers by monitoring tweets related to the company’s performance. They reply to customers directly and address specific issues with a personal touch.

I got a tweet today that led to a story showing how businesses are using Twitter. Check it out: http://tinyurl.com/d5hx2h.

I'll have a lot more to say about Twitter in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, I invite you to follow me: http://www.twitter.com/algibes.

For those of you already using Twitter, I'm @algibes.
