HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Kicken Vixen - What's the hottest barn at the Santa Anita meet?, Julio Canani; second time starter should improve.
So Hottie - Responded to class drop in last with a career best; a repeat of that gives her an upset chance.
Long Shot - Free Flying Soul
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Rare Nugget - Claimed by Mike Mitchell who has a first out strike rate of 41 percent; need not be much in here.
Sweetsinginanita - Interesting long shot with price specialist Chantal Sutherland; can see her finishing fastest.
Long Shot - Wood Art
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
My T Quick - FTS from Brian Koriner enlists Garrett Gomez to ride; the tote board should be singing on this one.
Zephaniah - Tepid best among those with experience; notice I picked 2 FTS when the veterans look too slow.
Long Shot - Megillah
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Sorry Baby - Bob Baffert cull takes a big class drop to face these; Joel Rosario will sit a trip and fire late.
Desperate - Not many claim from Mike Mitchell with any success, but Jack Carava is trying; like that Bejarano is up.
Long Shot - Upper Manhattan
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, 24 feet), Starter allowance $$40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds
Flew First Class - Big run down the hillside turf course in last; she is eligible for this spot, great placement.
Change My Luck - Hate the rail post, but she has a big chance; tactical speed to sit a midpack trip.
Long Shot - Sky Marni
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Eddie The Hat - Logical chalk due to some decent races on his resume; most of these don't look like runners at all.
Day With Desi - Peter Eurton barn is blistering hot this meet; like the turn back from a mile, should be dead fit.
Long Shot - Reigning Roses
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $63,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Monterey Jazz - With the turf rail out 24 feet, that will flatter his amazing early speed; plays catch me if you can.
Mast Track - Chance to sit a cozy ground saving trip with a patient ride; angles out for space in the stretch run.
Long Shot - Icy Atlantic
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Samantha's Rule - Speedball makes her second start off a 7-month hiatus; biggest class drop from MSW to maiden claiming.
Joint Agreement - She's responded to the price tag with two good seconds in a row; rallies to pick up the pieces.
Long Shot - Miss Cherry
Best Bet - Kicken Vixen (race 1)
