Wyoming slips past San Diego State

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Brandon Ewing scored 24 points and Tyson Johnson 22 to lead Wyoming to an 83-79 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday.

Afam Muojeke finished with 13 points and Sean Ogirri 12 for the Cowboys (12-4, 1-1 Mountain West). Johnson led the team with 10 rebounds.

In a tight game that featured 16 ties and 17 lead changes, Wyoming led by six on three occasions in the second half but had trouble putting the Aztecs away.

Kyle Spain scored four straight points to bring San Diego State (12-4, 2-1) to within 81-79 with 44 seconds remaining. But Wyoming ran down the shot clock, and Ewing hit Johnson underneath the basket for a layup with 10 seconds left to seal the win.

The Aztecs had won five in a row.

Spain and Billy White finished with 16 points apiece for San Diego State, and Richie Williams scored 12.

• Utah 57, Air Force 36 -- At Air Force Academy, Colo., Lawrence Borha scored 15 points as the Utes handed the Falcons their third consecutive loss.

Utah (11-6, 2-1) held Air Force, which shot a season-worst 23.8 percent, without a field goal for an 18:31 span from midway through the first half until the 13:07 mark in the second.

The Falcons, who entered the game as the nation's third-best 3-point shooting team, connected on 2 of 19 shots from behind the arc.
