Two homeless people burned in fire

One homeless man was recovering from burns sustained after a warming fire spread to his clothing near Bonanza Road and H Street this morning.

The unidentified man was one of two people sleeping in a remote area along Interstate 15 at the time. The second person, a woman, woke up after she heard the man's screams and tried to extinguish the flames, Las Vegas Fire Department officials said.

Both suffered burns to the front sides of their bodies. They were taken to University Medical Center for treatment.

The man's wounds included second- and third-degree burns over 30 percent of his body. She suffered second- and third-degree burns over 20 percent of her body.

Firefighters put out the warming fire and ruled the incident an accident.
