UNR students skewer Gibbons over budget proposal

A big problem with acts of protest these days is they usually aren’t very clever. March around, recite pithy phrases, hold up signs. Blah. Injecting a sense of humor into fighting The Man often pays dividends.

University of Nevada, Reno students — one or more of them — appear to have the proper spirit in protesting Gov. Jim Gibbons’ proposed higher education budget cuts. A photo in UNR’s student newspaper, Sagebrush, shows a “For Sale By Owner” sign posted in front of the university’s main entrance. The sign includes a handwritten phone number, which happens to be the number to Gibbons’ office.

Students at UNR, UNLV and the state’s other colleges must keep up the pressure to ensure the Legislature does not allow Gibbons to gut higher ed.
