Skylofts garners five stars from Mobil

The Mobil Travel Guide’s list of Five Star hotels has a new local entry.

Skylofts at MGM Grand has joined the rarefied ranks of properties earning Mobil’s highest designation for customer service and experience. Just one other local hotel met the Five Star standard: The Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas captured its third top honor from Mobil.

Before 2007, Las Vegas didn’t have a single Five Star hotel.

Skylofts is the only new local addition among this year’s crop of hotels and restaurants earning Five Stars from Mobil.

Two restaurants here repeated their Five Star performance of a year ago. Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand and Alex at Wynn both held on to the accolade.

Four Star honorees welcomed two local properties to their ranks. The year-old Palazzo made the Four Star roster, as did the Signature at MGM Grand.

Repeating the Four Stars honor are Wynn Las Vegas, The Venetian, the Four Seasons, Bellagio and the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas.
“We are honored to have both our resorts awarded with the distinguished Mobil Four Star rating,” said Rob Goldstein, president and chief operating officer of The Venetian and the Palazzo. “We strive to offer our guests the best in customer service, upscale amenities and superb hospitality, and these awards are validation of those efforts and a testament to the hard work of each and every one of our team members.”

All of 2009’s Four Star restaurants are prior winners. They include Aureole and Mix, both at Mandalay Bay; Michael Mina and Picasso, both at Bellagio; and Bradley Ogden and Restaurant Guy Savoy, both at Caesars Palace.

Winning four or five stars isn’t easy: Mobil’s inspectors assess hotels based on more than 750 criteria, while restaurants must meet the highest standards on more than 250 benchmarks.
