HIT-AND-RUN INCIDENT

Motorcyclist killed in crash on U.S. 95

A motorcyclist died earlier this week after his Harley-Davidson was rear-ended on U.S. Highway 95 by a man police suspect of driving under the influence.

A Nevada Highway Patrol official said the accident occurred at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday on southbound U.S. 95 near Las Vegas Boulevard.

Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea said a man driving a GMC Suburban rear-ended the male motorcyclist at a high rate of speed and caused him to crash into the back of a sport utility vehicle. That caused a chain reaction of crashes that involved up to six cars, Honea said. The man on the motorcycle was ejected from his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

His identity was not released.

Honea said the man driving the Suburban fled from the scene and exited the highway. He eventually was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. The driver's name was not available Wednesday night.

FALLON SCHOOL

Four face expulsion over dress code flap

Four Fallon high school students face expulsion after their arrests stemming from a flap over a dress code violation, officials said.

Municipal Court Judge Mike Lister placed the Churchill County High School students on house arrest Monday, three days after they were arrested on suspicion of interfering with a public officer.

School officials said a 17-year-old student refused to turn over his bandana to an administrator Friday.

Officials say the student turned aggressive when a police officer asked for the article. Three other students stepped in and were arrested. The school was locked down for more than an hour.

Superintendent Carolyn Ross said the process to expel the four students is under way.
