Man gets life in prison in slaying

A man convicted of beating his 57-year-old girlfriend to death with a hammer was sentenced Thursday to spend the rest of his life in prison.

District Judge Michael Villani sentenced Vincent DiBerardino, 59, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing Stephanie Zweig in 2006. Authorities said DiBerardino killed Zweig, his live-in girlfriend, in her home near Warm Springs Road and Eastern Avenue in June 2006.

A jury convicted DiBerardino of first degree murder and robbery in July.
