Still no final agreement on Monday’s special session

CARSON CITY -- Legislative leaders and Gov. Jim Gibbons still have not agreed on all details of the two-day special legislative session scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Monday.

Gibbons spokesman Daniel Burns said this morning that the governor and legislative leaders have agreed not to talk about how they will deal with the state deficit until all parties agree on every proposal.

Burns said the administration places the state's budget deficit for the current fiscal year at $332 million to $340 million.

While the session is scheduled for two days, he said it might last only one day, like during the last special session in June.

Burns said details of how they propose to cover the deficit might be included in the proclamation declaring the special session that Gibbons plans to issue. Contact Capital Bureau Chief Ed Vogel at evogel@reviewjournal.com or 775-687-3901.
