Police warn of charity scam

Las Vegas police are not seeking donations door to door or through phone solicitations during the holiday season.

Unfortunately, people posing as officers are.

Police said Wednesday they have received calls during the past few weeks from people asking whether the Metropolitan Police Department is soliciting donations for charities for women or children. Police said they don't want anyone to fall victim to a scam.

Credit card information should not be given to anybody claiming they are with the Metropolitan Police Department.

Anyone who believes they have been victimized by someone posing as a Las Vegas police officer is urged to call 311 or the Metropolitan Police Department's Office of Public Information at 828-3394.
