Kuchar surges ahead

Matt Kuchar, the 1997 U.S. Amateur champion, birdied the 13th and 14th holes to grab the lead all by himself.

He was joined just a few minutes later at 24 under by Marc Turnesa, who birdied 11 and 12.

Chad Campbell is currently alone in third at 23 under. He is playing the last hole.

Pressure Putt

Michael Allen has never won a PGA Tour event.

He might be finding it out why titles are so hard to come by at golf’s highest level.

When a player is in contention on the back nine in the final round of a tournament, every putt becomes pressure-packed.

After grabbing a share of the lead, Allen found himself facing a 3-foot par putt on the 11th hole.

He pulled it badly.

The UNR grad is now two shots off the lead at 22 under,

Minutes later, John Mallinger also felt the pressure and found the water on the 16th. Mallinger had held at least a share of the lead throughout much of the final round.

He bogeyed the hole to fall two behind the leaders.
