Worker killed at Hoover Dam bypass project

One person died Monday while working on the Hoover Dam bypass project site, the Federal Highway Administration confirmed today.

Further information, including the person's name, age and manner of death, were not released.

The agency said the accident occurred during a routine operation to adjust a cable used to align the temporary concrete towers that support construction of the bridge's giant arches.

The bridge will carry most of the traffic between Nevada and Arizona over the Colorado River, relieving traffic congestion over the dam itself.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the cause of the accident.
