Census: Rate of uninsured Nevadans high

RENO -- A new report from the U.S. Census Bureau shows Nevada has one of the highest rates of people without health insurance.

The data compiled by the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates reported that nearly one in four Nevada adults younger than 65 lack health insurance. The report also found that about one in 10 Nevada children are at or near the poverty line and have no insurance.

Nationally, Nevada ranks ninth for the percentage of children at or near the poverty line who are uninsured.

Health officials say lack of insurance means more trips to emergency rooms and higher costs for everyone.
