Cut phone line leaves 20,000 customers without service

A severed telephone line has cut off service to more than 20,000 telephone customers in Southern Nevada, Embarq Corp. officials said today.

Embarq said that a construction crew laying a sewer line in downtown Las Vegas at 10:30 a.m. broke telephone lines for more than 20,000 customers on the city's east side, in Boulder City and to Laughlin.

The phone company said the interruption of phone service could continue for days.

Voice, Internet and wireless communications are affected by the break.
