WRANGLERS HOME OPENER THIS THURSDAY vs. ONTARIO

The Las Vegas Wranglers posted a 0-1-1 record this past week to begin the season. Las Vegas started the team's sixth season in the ECHL with a 4-1 loss at Alaska last Friday. On Saturday, the Wranglers were edged by the Aces 6-5 in a shootout at Sullivan Arena.

Las Vegas hosts Ontario for Opening Night this Thursday at 7:30 pm at the Orleans Arena. The Wranglers and the Reign will play again on Friday night at the Orleans Arena a 7:30 pm. Las Vegas will help Ontario open the new state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday at 7:00 pm in Ontario, CA.

Anchorage, AK ---- The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Alaska Aces 4-1 at Sullivan Arena on Friday night. Forward Colin Hemmingway scored twice and dished out an assist as the Aces scored four unanswered goals for the victory. Rookie goalie J.P. Lamoreux stopped 27 of 28 Las Vegas shots. Rookie Mick Lawrence scored the Wranglers only goal on the night.

Saturday, October 18th
Las Vegas 5 at Alaska 6 SO
Anchorage, AK ---- The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Alaska Aces 6-5 in a shootout at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night. Aces goalie J.P. Lamouruex made 42 saves in regulation and stopped all four Wranglers in the shootout for the win. Alaska defensemen Corbin Schmidt and Matt Shasby tallied late third period goals to cap off an Aces comeback and tie the game 5-5. Forward Tim Spencer scored twice for the Wranglers, while center Chris Neiszner set up two tallies. Forwards Chris Korchinski, Mick Lawrence, as well as defenseman Mike Madill each scored for Las Vegas. Goalie Bryan Bridges made 35 saves in the defeat.

Former Wrangler Sloan Heads to NHL
The Washington Capitals recalled defenseman Tyler Sloan from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Monday.

The former Wrangler played in 48 games with Las Vegas during the 2005-06 season. The rearguard scored four goals and dished out 16 assists totaling 20 points. Sloan racked up a 71 penalty minutes and was among the team leaders with a +22.

Wranglers Roster Report
Las Vegas starting goalie John DeCaro left Friday's game with a lower-body injury. No time table has been set for DeCaro's return. Defenseman Jason Dest suffered a lower-body injury in Alaska and was placed on the three-day injured reserve on Saturday.

Defenseman Brandon Straub remains in the AHL with Quad City. Forward Matt Beaudoin was returned on loan from Milwaukee (AHL) and remains on seven-day injured reserve list. He is eligible to come off the IR Saturday. Center Justin Taylor is waiting for immigration paperwork to be finalized before joining the team.

Upcoming Opponents
Ontario Reign ---- 1-0-0, 2 points, 1st Place Tie, West
The Reign began their 2008-09 inaugural season on Saturday with a 2-1 win in Bakersfield. Ontario gained two points for the win, placing them in a tie with the Fresno Falcons for the lead in the Pacific Division. The Wranglers and Reign will meet for the first time in history this Thursday at the Orleans Arena. The game marks the first of nine meetings this season.

Karl Taylor is Ontario's first coach in team history. Taylor joins the Reign after having spent the past three seasons (2005-08) with the Reading Royals of the ECHL where he served in the same capacity. While with the Royals, Taylor compiled a regular season record of 112-82-22, leading the team to the Kelly Cup playoffs in two of his three seasons behind the bench.

Reign goalie Jeff Zatkoff picked up the first win in Ontario history by stopping 29 of 30 Condors shots. Ontario's Andrew Martin and Brad Mehalko each scored on the power play in the season opener.
