Opening statements given in Herda murder trial

Opening statements were given in District Court today in the murder trial of the man accused of killing Herda Discount TV & Appliance founder John Herda.

Prosecutors said Bryan Crawley, 40, killed the World War II veteran during a robbery in August 2006.

After the slaying, Crawley tried to hire a hitman to kill witnesses and fabricate evidence, Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo said.
