Ex-Reno anchorwoman dies

RENO -- Roz Parry-Vizina, Reno's first television anchorwoman, died Tuesday at her Reno home at the age of 61.

She was co-anchor at KOLO-TV in the 1970s before heading two state agencies under two Nevada governors, Mike O'Callaghan and Richard Bryan.

Parry-Vizina later worked in public relations, and most recently was development director for the local Planned Parenthood.

The Long Island, N.Y., native worked at various Chicago-area radio and television stations before moving to Reno in the early 1970s.

Survivors include her husband of 15 years, broadcaster Bob Chez (Vizina), four stepchildren and a sister, Emily.

At Parry-Vizina's request, no funeral will be held. Friends plan to hold a memorial at a later date.
