Nye County deputy wounded

A Nye County sheriff's deputy is recovering at UMC this morning after being shot twice at a Pahrump RV park, sheriff's department officials said.

The deputy, who has not been identified, responded to reports of shots fired at Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Resort at about 2 a.m. today.

When deputies arrived, they heard the shots before the suspect jumped from behind rocks and took aim at them, Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall said.

Two shots penetrated the deputy's bulletproof vest and struck him in his side. He was airlifted to UMC and initial tests indicate no vital organs were hit, Marshall said.

The suspect, whose name is also not being released, was arrested and taken into custody.
