Small fires sparked at Bellagio, Venetian

One man was treated for burns and several people were evacuated this morning from the 26th floor of the Bellagio after a lit cigarette sparked a small room fire, Clark County fire officials said.

The mattress fire, which occurred at about 5:50 a.m., was the second small fire to ignite on the Strip in two days. A separate blaze on the 14th floor of the Venetian occurred at about 9:50 p.m. Monday in a mechanical room. Firefighters are unsure what sparked the fire but believe it started near a pile of large air filters.

No injuries were reported in the Venetian fire.

In-room sprinkler systems snuffed out the flames in both incidents.

A man was taken to a local hospital for minor burns to his arms from the Bellagio fire and a few people were treated for smoke inhalation, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said.

Both fires are currently being investigated.
