Nevada Power protest held

More than 100 Nevada Power employees protested in front of the company's Sahara Avenue headquarters Thursday night, the utility reported.

The electrical workers' union is not on strike, but it is in the midst of contract negotiations. A Nevada Power spokesman declined to disclose key issues but said the company has no intention of negotiating to provide benefits that are higher than those of comparable electric utilities.

Nevada Power executive Mark Shank said in a statement: "We were extremely disappointed that the union took this type of action when the company has been negotiating in good faith all along."

The utility doesn't expect the protest to resume today.
