Crane worker killed

A construction worker died at the CityCenter project Saturday morning, the second such death at the multibillion dollar Strip construction site this year.

MGM Mirage spokeswoman Yvette Monet said the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the 7:30 a.m. death.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison told The Associated Press that the man, a crane "oiler," was working on a moving crane when he is believed to have been caught between the counterweight system and the track of the crane.

He was crushed and killed. Allison said the crane did not fall. The man's name was not immediately released.

CityCenter, expected to open in late 2009, is being built by MGM Mirage.

At least six people have died at the project site since construction began in June 2006.

The most recent death was on April 26, when 47-year-old electrician Mark Wescoat fell about 20 feet to his death.

Wescoat's death was ruled accidental by the Clark County coroner's office, but OSHA has yet to release the results of its investigation.
