Man arrested after pedestrian killed crossing Sunset Road

A 61-year-old Las Vegas man was killed Friday afternoon when he was struck by a car while jaywalking.

The man, whose name was not available, was walking across Sunset Road, near McLeod Drive, from the north side of the street and outside of a marked crosswalk at 3:06 p.m., Las Vegas police said.

As the man walked across the left lane of the westbound lanes, he was struck by a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 35-year-old Kevin Gipson of Las Vegas.

Gipson failed to stop and fled the scene westbound on Sunset. He was arrested and booked in the Clark County Detention Center on hit-and-run and DUI-related charges.

Pedestrian error was the cause of the incident, police said.
