MUSIC: Get Dead at the Divebar

“Punk’s not dead, it just deserves to die,” Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra once sang on the heartrending “Chicken!@#$ Conformist.”
But tonight, the genre gets a stay of execution.
Though he and the rest of the DKs have long been estranged from their outspoken frontman – especially after winning a long-simmering legal dispute with Biafra and touring under the Dead Kennedys name with former child actor Brandon Cruz – band guitarist East Bay Ray will be in town tonight to bash out some DK classics at the Divebar, 3035 E. Tropicana, with Vegas-based rock all-stars the Sin City Sinners, who include in their ranks former members of Faster Pussycat, Raging Slab, the Marky Ramone band and others.
The Sinners’ celebrity-studded jam sessions – which take place most Tuesday nights – are always a blast, a loose, sweaty and intimate set where dudes like Sami Yaffa (Hanoi Rocks, New York Dolls), Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys), Phil Lewis (L.A. Guns) and scads more drop by to play tunes from their past and usually a few covers as well.
Next Tuesday, Mark Kendall of Great White stops by. The week after that, it’s Jizzy Pearl of Love/Hate infamy.
The night’s a lot of fun and it’s free, meaning the only thing it’s likely to cost ya is a hangover the next day.
The festivities get going at 10 p.m. Call 579-4707 for more info.
