Russell Road crash kills motorcyclist

A 41-year-old Las Vegan died Thursday after his motorcycle struck a sports utility vehicle, police said.

The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at Russell and Wynn roads, police said. Police said witnesses indicated that a GMC Yukon was northbound on Wynn. Cory Woods, 23, of Las Vegas was the driver.

After stopping, Woods tried to turn left across the eastbound lanes of Russell. The motorcyclist, whose identity was not released, was unable to stop and struck the driver's side of the Yukon. The motorcyclist was transported to the University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Woods failed to yield the right of way, police said, but no charges had been filed pending an investigation.
