TV: I’ve been blurbed!
If you come across the commercial touting the critical praise for “Hopkins” (10 p.m. Thursday, KTNV-TV Channel 13), ABC News’ six-part look inside Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Hospital, stick around for the last two quotes.
After raves from the likes of People magazine, the New York Daily News, the Miami Herald and The Baltimore Sun, you’ll find “ ‘uplifting’-- Las Vegas Review-Journal” and “ ‘nothing short of a miracle’ -- Las Vegas Review-Journal.”
In my Monday column, I called it uplifting right off the bat. No problems there. But you have to look a little harder for the “nothing short of a miracle.” It comes after I rattled off descriptions of the bizarre reality shows ABC is launching this week -- “Wipeout,” “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” and “Dance Machine”-- and reads, “That ABC News was able to get time in the middle of all that ridiculousness to present an intimate look at the state of surgery today is nothing short of a miracle.”
Don’t get me wrong. “Hopkins” is very good. I'm just not sure it's nothing-short-of-a-miracle good.
