The Whigs bound for Beauty Bar

Scruffy Athens, Georgia-based rockers The Whigs are like a favorite pair of Levi's: familiar, shopworn, a little rough around the edges, and all the better for it.

The band's ragged jangle is like comfort food for any emaciated rockers starving for a Replacements reunion, all gruff guitars set against equally snarky and sincere lyrical come-ons and put-downs.

It's nothing new. But like denim and beer, it hardly needs to be.

See the band at 10 p.m. Thursday at the Beauty Bar, 517 Fremont St. Call 598-1965.
