UNLV recruits in local tournaments

UNLV recruits Justin Hawkins and Carlos Lopez will participate this weekend in two Las Vegas tournaments featuring the nation's top high school basketball players.

Hawkins and Lopez, who made oral commitments to the Rebels, are the first members of coach Lon Kruger's 2009 recruiting class.

Hawkins, a guard from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft High, is playing for the Compton Magic in the Las Vegas Spring Showcase. Hawkins' team opens at 9:10 a.m. Saturday at Spring Valley High School.

Lopez, a forward from Findlay College Prep, has been added to the roster for Pump N Run Elite in the Double Pump Spring Classic.

Cheyenne guard Elijah Johnson, a highly rated recruit who is considering UNLV, also stars for Pump N Run Elite, which opens play at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at Bishop Gorman High School.

Bishop Gorman seniors Quintin Dailey and Kevin Loyd play for EBO/2K Sports, which faces Pump N Run Elite at 1:10 p.m. Saturday at Gorman.

Mojave guard Anthony Marshall, also being recruited by UNLV, headlines the roster for the Las Vegas Prospects in the Double Pump tournament.
