Centennial pays back Arbor View with win

On April 7, the last time Centennial played Arbor View in baseball, the Bulldogs did everything right and everything wrong.

They got 13 hits, but none was timely. They scored runs in five separate innings but never more than one. They played sound defense but had a costly error in the 8-5 loss.

On Friday against the Aggies, Centennial did only right in an 18-8 win.

"When we came out of school today, our kids were dialed in," said Centennial coach Charlie Cerrone, whose team is tied with Arbor View at 10-2 for first place in the Northwest Division. "They hit the ball where they should hit the ball. They just brought it."

The Bulldogs (21-9) jumped all over formerly undefeated Aggies starter Josh Arnold, who entered the game having allowed only eight earned runs in 51 2/3 innings.

Against Centennial, Arnold surrendered eight runs, five earned, in three innings.

"He beat us the first time, so now it was like, 'Alright, we're ready for him,' " said Nate Rink, who was 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs.

Trevor Goff, was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Sam Friend was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.

Chris Manning and Chad Cole each homered for Arbor View.

• Cimarron-Memorial 5, Shadow Ridge 4 -- At Cimarron, Kris Kaplan went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Spartans. Taylor Doyle was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Cimarron.

• Legacy 13, Palo Verde 12 -- At Palo Verde, Rich Esquivel started and finished a six-run seventh-inning for the Longhorns. Esquivel led off the seventh with a single and later singled in Joey Lauria with the go-ahead run.

• Cheyenne 11, Mojave 1 -- At Cheyenne, winning pitcher Jorge Paula went 3-for-3 with a grand slam, a double and six RBIs.

• Green Valley 4, Silverado 1 -- At Green Valley, Mark Johnson tossed a five-hitter to help the Gators. Nick Melino was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Green Valley.

• Tech 10, Liberty 9 -- At Liberty, Padric Hall's three-run double in the top of the seventh inning lifted Tech.

Travis James had two hits and two RBIs for Tech.

• Del Sol 10, Foothill 6 -- At Foothill, Brian Madrid went 5-for-5 with a home run, two triples and four RBIs to help the Dragons rally.

• Coronado 10, Basic 0 -- At Coronado, Tim Arthur went 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI to help the Cougars cruise to a six-inning win.

• Eldorado 6, Western 3 -- At Eldorado, the Sundevils made the most of four hits, rallying from an early 3-0 deficit to win.

• Durango 17, Las Vegas 16 -- At Durango, Zach Hollenback's bases-loaded walk capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh for the Trailblazers.

Mike Stiles was 3-for-4 with five RBIs for Durango.

• Bishop Gorman 9, Rancho 1 -- At Rancho, Paul Sewald had a three-run double in the first inning and then held the Rams to one hit in five innings.

• Valley 12, Clark 3 -- At Valley, winning pitcher Matt Newark went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

Larry Valdez was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Valley.

• Calvary Chapel 25-16, Trinity 1-1 -- At Paul Meyer Park, Cameron Harper went 6-for-7 with four home runs, a double and 10 RBIs in the doubleheader to lead Calvary Chapel.

Cory Welch belted three homers in the two games. T.J. White homered in both games.

• Faith Lutheran 6-11, Boulder City 0-5 -- At Boulder City, the Crusaders had 22 hits in the sweep. Faith Lutheran's Dylan Young had a home run and a double in the second game.

• Mountain View 13, Lake Mead 12 -- At Mountain View, Alex Watson's RBI single capped the Saints' winning rally.

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the fifth inning with Lake Mead leading 8-6.

• Virgin Valley 6-11, Pahrump Valley 3-10 -- At Pahrump Valley, Vince Rubakaba scored on an error in the eighth inning to give the Bulldogs the sweep.
