Tax paying not always so painful

Mandalay Bay is trying to take a bite out of the pain of having to pay taxes today by making it more convenient for procrastinators.

The hotel-casino is offering a drive-through drop-off area called Shark Reef Station where taxpayers can mail their forms. Representatives of the U.S. Postal Service will be available with postal scales and stamps. The resort also is offering two vouchers for free admission to the Shark Reef and an entry into a drawing for a free dinner and spa treatments at Mandalay Bay.

The station will be open from noon until 10 p.m.

An express drop-off lane also will be available at the James C. Brown Jr. Post Office, 1001 E. Sunset Road. The post office will be open until midnight.

Other post offices that will be open until 10 p.m. to accommodate taxpayers are Red Rock Vista, 2449 N. Tenaya Way; Spring Valley, 3375 S. Rainbow Blvd.; Winterwood, 5070 Vegas Valley Drive; Meadows Mesa, 4904 Camino Al Norte; and Henderson, 404 S. Boulder Highway.

For those who wish to indulge after taking care of their taxes, the Freakin' Frog at 4700 S. Maryland Parkway is offering free beer and barbecue beginning at noon.
