HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

B R's Girl - Beaten chalk was flattered when Wickednwackyingrid won next time out; should stretch out over the Cushion track.

Smooth Performer - Dead late closer lost her rider Gomez to B R's Girl; she was flattered when Final Fling won next time out.

Long Shot - Tates Queen

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $41,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds

Our Partner - Controlling speed can dictate the pace as he pleases; not sure if anyone wants to play the sacrificial lamb.

Gregorian Bay - Gets class relief off a much tougher allowance race for this; key for me is Gomez remains loyal to Sadler.

Long Shot - Boutrous

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Artistic Talent - Like the parking lot post for this dead late closer down the hillside turf course; Bejarano and Frankel.

Great Grace - Speedball will benefit from the turf rail out a maximum 30 feet today; goes as fast and as far as she can.

Long Shot - Masterful Miss

Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds

Instant Action - That was one powerful win last time out; claimed by Hollendorfer, proved he adores the synthetic surfaces.

Tox Dee Bee - Switch to Bejarano after a pair of close seconds; this should be a class level he'll feel comfortable with.

Long Shot - Roosevelt

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Passion - Did a pop and stop in the Spinaway at Saratoga; her quickness could be flattered by the turf rail out 30 feet.

P.S.U. Grad - Given time to recoup off a miserable Oak Leaf; her two races before that are fine, should be firing late.

Long Shot - Ice Lady

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Malabar Star - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like that Gomez rides for the money shot.

Regal Redemption - Could be a Ron Anderson exacta as the Mig rides this filly; Robbins takes the blinkers off for control.

Long Shot - Happyhour Athebrig

Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $68,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 4-year-olds and up

Toasted - That was one ugly race last time out as a beaten chalk; his race before that is more than adequate to win today.

Rathor - Lone question mark is his return off a 9-month sabbatical; he's proven to be a solid performer in the right spot.

Long Shot - Fitz Flag

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

O Bee Naki - Mare is being managed as well as a cheap horse can be; consistent sort is not being asked to do too much.

Lockitup - Taking a steep class drop to where it's practically now or never; her best days are long ago and far away.

Long Shot - Marry Me Larry

Best Bet - Instant Action (race 4)

Santa Anita Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$21.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$23.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 236/55/$414.40; Long Shots, 120/20/$245.40; Best Bets, 14/5/$22.80
