School district has police chief

Capt. Filiberto Arroyo is about to go from handling half the duties of the Clark County School District police chief to all of them.

District spokesman Michael Rodriguez confirmed Thursday that Arroyo is the district's new police chief. The position opened in July when former Chief Hector Garcia resigned after two years on the job. Since then, Arroyo and Capt. James Ketsaa have filled in as interim co-chiefs.

Arroyo, who was not available for comment, became school police captain in 2005. He has more than 22 years of law enforcement and security experience, including service with the Miami, Fla., Police Department; project manager of the West Palm Beach, Fla., Juvenile Assessment Center; and with the Palm Beach County School District Police Department.

Arroyo is a graduate of the Southeast Florida Institute of Criminal Justice in Miami. He has a bachelor's degree in organizational management from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
