Findlay Prep’s rally falls short in title game
Findlay Prep's boys basketball team put together a late rally Thursday but couldn't overcome a 10-point deficit, losing 75-73 to Hargrave Military in the championship game of the National Prep School Championship tournament at Fordham University in New York City.
The Pilots trailed by 10 with 1:10 to go before storming back to cut the lead to one.
Hargrave sank two free throws to make the score 75-72, then fouled Findlay Prep's DeAndre Liggins near halfcourt before he could get off a 3-point attempt.
Liggins, who has signed with Kentucky, hit the first free throw, then missed the second. The Pilots got the rebound but missed a shot as time expired.
Hargrave Military, which was seeded No. 1 in the tournament, used an extreme free-throw advantage to get the win, shooting 37 foul shots compared with 10 for Findlay Prep.
UNLV recruit Brice Massamba had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Findlay Prep (32-1), which was the tournament's No. 2 seed.
